Packing list for multi-day SUP tours

Are you planning a SUP tour?

Anyone who goes on a multi-day tour with a stand-up paddleboard faces a few challenges. Firstly, the board does not offer much space for luggage, and secondly, the luggage must be well stowed on the board. This means it must be well secured against capsizing and packed in a waterproof manner. If you want to spend the night in nature, you will need more equipment than on a tour where you stay in hotels.

A relaxed tour needs to be well prepared. Our packing list is for guidance only and is not intended to be complete. This naturally depends heavily on your route profile, the country you are traveling to, the expected weather, the length and duration of the tour, etc.

Clothing

Please remember that you should always dress according to the water temperature. If the air has already warmed up to 20 degrees but the water is still below 15 degrees, it is advisable to wear appropriate clothing. Neoprene is suitable here, but a breathable SUP dry suit is better but also more expensive. In addition to breathability, another advantage is that you can dress according to the outside temperature under the dry suit and there is no risk of overheating. The dry suit is also the better choice in windy conditions, as a wet wetsuit cools down quickly in the wind. Neoprene shoes are also a good choice in colder temperatures, especially if you want to quickly pull your board onto land for a break and the ground is a bit uncomfortable. Gloves are really only needed in very cold temperatures. From a water temperature of 15 degrees, functional clothing plays a subordinate role and you can also paddle in board shorts, for example.

Let me know

It's best to always tell someone your route and times so that they know where to look for you in an emergency. It's also a good idea to label your board with your name, address and phone number. It's best to use board tags to avoid permanently damaging your board.

    Food and Drink

On long trips you need more space for food. Space is scarce, so you can use ready-made food (freeze-dried or vacuum-sealed). Alternatively, plan your route so that you always pass by shopping opportunities. Take enough food and drink with you to replenish your energy reserves and not dehydrate on the way. Also make sure you have water for cooking.

      • Carry small items and snacks in your hip bag (nuts, energy bars)
      • Water treatment tablets / small water filter

      Fin is screwed to Sup

If you are travelling in a group, not everyone needs replacements for everything. You help each other. Agree on who takes what and pay attention to different board constructions. For example, some boards use slide-in fins, whereas the standard is the US box system. If you use good quality material, the likelihood of it breaking on the way is much lower.
